When you see a wood worker at a yard sale you might never assume he is crafting his next turning project in his mind. The ironwood in this pen was simply a small plank of rough wood in a stack. Ironwood is a flowering desert tree. The flowers are lavender in color and the wood has very dark grain lines. A simple rough plank can have a richness if only we look for it and bring it out. What inner beauty are you able to find in the rough places in your life?

Ballpoint Pen
Specs: .7 mm black ball point ink pen
Refill: Cross brand 4.5” twist style insert

Mechanical Pencil
Specs: .7 mm lead mechanical pencil with eraser
Refill: .7 mm lead


This pen uses a premanufactured twist style ballpoint pen kit filled with a medium point black ink cartridge. This pencil uses a premanufactured top press mechanical pencil kit filled with refillable .7mm lead and eraser. The barrels are turned on a lathe by the artist Lin Schiermeyer. Each pen and pencil set is created one at a time from reclaimed, found, repurposed, and sometimes purchased materials. No two sets, just as no two humans, are alike.
