This unique and lightweight silk and wool blend scarf is hand dyed and printed with actual plants from my garden, using a multi-step process. It has a purple/grey background, with subtle, earthy colours given from each plant. The leaves have offered green and maroon, tones. and St. John's Wort and Calendula flowers have been used as minor accents. The late summer imprints provide a very colorful look to the overall expression.
Each finished piece is my original work, and no two will be alike. Botanical prints on cloth are made by a process of first cleaning and preparing the substrate, adding foraged plant material, securing it into a bundle, and then adding heat and sometimes natural dyes to the process. The print process takes about two hours to complete. Fabric is then washed, dried and ironed.
The majority of my botanical print work is made with plants carefully foraged and sustainably harvested from my garden and selling my surrounding environment in rural Norway. Occasionally, I print in situ when I travel. Sometimes I am gifted plants from friends' gardens, and sometimes I am called by fresh eucalyptus when passing a florist doorway in the midst of a long Norwegian winter...
The natural dye process is a sustainable, eco friendly, and careful, multi step process using actual plants and plant sourced dyes.
This scarf measures 32 cm x 155 cm.
