Ghost Beads were created in Venice in the late 1800's. These beads are now difficult to find and are coveted by collectors. They were originally made as florals but quickly became known as "ghost beads" for obvious reasons.
African Trade beads are decorative beads that were used as currency between the end of the 15th century thru the 20th century in exchange for goods such as palm oil, ivory, spices, gold and slaves. The majority of these beads were created in places like Venice, Bohemia, and Holland. They were valued by Africans as a sign of wealth, social status, currency and adornment.
