This is a Vintage Rusted Metal Betel Nut Cutter from Lombok, Indonesia. This cuter was used to slice dried areca nut (that hardens to a wood - like consistency), then wrapped selling in leaves of the piper betel vine, and coated with lime; known as a betel quid. Chewing the mixture of areca nut and betel leaf is a tradition or ritual which dates back thousands of years in much of the geographical areas from South Asia eastward to the Pacific ocean. This betel nut cutter would be a wonderful addition to your collection.
