Product code: Art Deco- selling Kookaburra-Morpho Butterfly Wing Sterling Pin-1.5”

This is a magnificent little beauty. It was created between 1920- 1930 in Birmingham, England however unmarked.
It was made by the Shiptons Company which is still in operation and run by the descendants of the original Shiptons. This Jewelry Design House began in 1923 as a result of a Jewelry exhibit at the British Empire Exhibition. At this time, exploration of the amazon and the deep jungles of South America captured the attention of post Victorian England. Europeans who clamored for the exotic and Morpho butterfly wing jewelry filled that niche.
In the early 1920's the Shiptons produced a variety small pins and a few small pendants. This pin was one of the very early pieces.
The pin measures 1.5”, is framed in sterling silver and has a working C-clasp. It is hallmarked England, silver and has the original patent number.

The design on this exotic brooch is a depiction of a Kookaburra. The Kookaburra is native to Australia and New Guinea. At the time this pin was made exotic themes in jewelry were all the rage. Animals from far flung locations found their way in to English design. Amazingly the Kookaburra was one such bird.

This pin is quite unique and very unusual. It is selling the perfect gift for Morpho butterfly wing jewelry collectors, your favorite Australian friend or you because wearing a 100+ year old English design with a Kookaburra is just fun.
