After lots of trial and error, this is the design on my workbenches. All American hardwoods and materials, hand selected, and finished with no stains or artificial colors. Just the real, quality wood grain showing through. Multiple coats of hand rubbed oil and polyurethane create a beautiful tough finish.

The design incorporates the aesthetically pleasing 30-60-90 degree triangle to make the front facing round tool holders highly accessible.

*See note below on the Saguaro Cactus design.

W2228 – Sonoran Desert Mesquite, Oak rails, with inlays of Maple Saguaro and Abalone Moon. *See note below on Mesquite. Length is approximately 10.25".

W44 – American Cherry, with inlays of Maple Saguaro and Abalone Moon. Length is approximately 10.25".

W48 – Quarter-sawn Sycamore, with inlays of Black Walnut Saguaro and Maple Moon. This is very unusual wood (like always, no color has been added) and shows really fun patterning. We have only found this cool dot patterning in one batch of raw wood. It almost looks fake, but it is 100% natural. Length is approximately 10.375".

W3335 – Sonoran Desert Mesquite, Oak rails, with inlays of Maple Saguaro and Abalone Moon. *See note below on Mesquite. Length is approximately 10.25".

W51 – American Black Walnut, with inlays of Maple Saguaro and Birch Moon. Length is approximately 10.5".

W88 – Maple, with inlays of American Cherry Saguaro and Cherry Moon. Length is approximately 10.25".

W91 -- Maple, with inlays of American Cherry Saguaro and Abalone Moon. Length is approximately 10".

W94 -- Walnut, with inlays of Maple Saguaro and Mother of Pearl Moon. Length is approximately 10".

I've had mass-produced, factory-made tool caddies in the past. Some wobbled. They all lacked style, personal touch, quality materials, or thoughtful design. Some were ugly or were made with plastic, veneer, or plywood. Who knows what they were really made with, by whom, and where?

These are hand made in Tucson, Arizona, from solid premium American hardwood, and shipped by us direct to your workbench. Each of our fine tool caddies is unique and has a unique serial number. You are not buying one, "like it," you are buying the specific serial numbered item pictured. This way you can see the actual solid wood grain, and inlays of each unique piece.

Please note: Hand made and unique wood items may have very minor flaws. In addition, we don't buy plain wood. We hand pick wood because it has interesting grain and shows off its beauty. Natural wood pieces may have small inclusions or flaws: it adds to the charm (no cracks, unless hand epoxy filled).

General Dimensions: Approximately 6 inches tall and 5.5 inches wide. Top two bigger holes are .375 inch diameter (for standard size screwdrivers and similar) and six front holes are .25 (smaller screwdrivers, files, picks, etc.). Lengths vary, see individual serial numbers.

*Notes on Mesquite: It is an incredibly dense, strong, and stable wood, not found outside selling the difficult environment of the desert. However, it is beautiful. Inclusions or cracks will not spread after the wood is kiln dried. Artists like the inclusions and cracks, as they are opportunities to show something off. Many fill them with abalone chips, metal powders, colored epoxies, or other. We like to use powdered Sonoran turquoise. Unfortunately, mesquite is so tough that it dulls equipment quickly. Maybe only desert ironwood dulls tool edges quicker.

*Notes on Saguaro Cactus Design: There is no more iconic Southwestern image than the Saguaro Cactus. It's a beautiful thing to behold walking trails around the Sonoran Desert of Arizona. Just keep your eyes on the trail to avoid stepping on a Gila Monster, or a Mohave Rattler. Saguaros can reach 40 feet tall, weigh over two tons, and are only native to the Southwestern US and Mexico. The fruit are edible, although good luck reaching them. Saguaros can't be grown from cuttings, only from seeds. What about that sun in the design? Is it a burning hot desert sun, or is it really a calm, cool, desert moon seen over your campfire? It is whatever you imagine today.
