Product code: Skull Spider : hand embossed anatomical selling repoussé metal wall art

Skull Spider, a hand embossed anatomical repoussé metal framed artwork, created from sheet pewter.

A little spider with a skull for an abdomen. Polished and set in a bevelled black wooden frame.

Approximate sizes:
Frame: 12.5cm x 10cm x 1.7cm / 4.9" x 3.9" x .7"
Embossed area: 9cm x 6.5cm / 3.5" x 2.5"

All pieces ship ready to hang or where noted, a fold out stand. I try to take photos of my pieces from several different angles to show the way the light interacts with the metal surface and paint, and the three-dimensional embossed shapes and textures (any props/easels in the photographs are for display only and are not included in the listing).

This item will be shipped to you standard parcel airmail, which takes approx 3-4 working days to Australian locations and approx 6-10 working days to locations outside Australia. This item sent outside Australia includes tracking. Please let me know if you would like the item shipped express.

I do ship worldwide wherever possible though I have not included shipping costs for all countries – if a shipping cost for your country is not listed, please contact me and I will give you a quote.

A CURIOUS ELIXIR : AN ALCHEMICAL TRANSFORMATION OF PEWTER INTO UNIQUE ARTWORKS

Using a metal tooling technique known as repoussé, I emboss each piece by hand in my Melbourne studio. After pressing the design into the pewter sheet, the surface is etched, bumped, scratched, marked, doused with a dark patinating solution and then polished back to give it a tarnished, aged look, leaving the metal surface stained with tones of blacks, browns, blues, golds and silvers - this process is wonderfully unpredictable, so every piece is completely unique. The piece is then finished with gems, glass paint, enamels, iridescent pigments and sometimes patterned origami papers or vintage engraving imagery. Each piece is sealed with crystalline wax to protect the surface and framed up ready to hang/stand.

I sometimes reuse designs though I never use a stamp or machine embosser to create my artworks – every piece of metal art in this shop is handmade and one of a kind.
