This is an uncut set of chromolithographed paper soldiers published by McLoughlin Bros. around 1875. The covers measure 3 3/8" by 2 1/4" and there are three sets of two soldiers each. There is wear to the cover but the paper is folded back so can be flattened back in place.
McLoughlin Bros., Inc. was a New York publishing firm active between 1858 and 1920. The selling company was a pioneer in color printing technologies in children's books. The company specialized in retellings of classic stories for children. By 1886, the firm published a wide range of items, including cheap chapbooks, large folio picture books, linen books, puzzles, games, paper soldiers and paper dolls.
