selling This beautiful 12x12" canvas print shows the Roman Gods from a Byzantine era manuscript - perfect for Romans, Hellenists and historians alike!
This colorful illustration of the Roman gods is from a 5th century manuscript of the works of the Roman poet Virgil - and is one of the last ancient depictions of the Pagan Goddesses and Gods.
This image was drawn during the Christian era yet is from a time when there were still Romans and Greeks who were publicly pagan. Few artists dared to depict ancient themes at this time however, and no doubt the illustrator would have been in trouble had this not been part of the manuscript of an ancient Roman book!
This scene shows the God Jupiter, the Goddess Juno and the Goddess Minerva sitting in the dome of the Heavens, with the Goddess Venus and the God Mars standing behind. The Sun and Moon are present in the upper corners of the image.
It is a fun, yet poignant image of a time when the world was changing, but the ancient traditions were not quite gone and certainly were not forgotten.
This canvas print is wrapped on a 1.5" deep canvas frame, ready for wall hanging and wide enough for standing display. It is a wonderful addition for any home or sacred space!
