Product code: Authentic Mexican Rebozo, Artisanal Manta Shawl, Scarf. 2.65mx61cm. For Doula, Midwife, Closing the Bones, Childbirth, Pregnancy, selling Postpartum

Beautiful handwoven striped Rebozos / Mantas. 100% non-stretch selling cotton. Made on Mexican pedal looms and hand-died in gorgeous bright colours with hand-knotted fringes.

These open weave (‘deshilade') rebozos are 2.65m long (with an added 21cm fringe on either side). Width is 61 cm. Very soft and high quality cotton.

All Rebozos I offer are are fair-trade and ethically & directly sourced from different artisanal weavers cooperatives from villages all around Mexico. Your purchase enables the small cooperatives to continue their pre-Hispanic tradition of Rebozo weaving while also allowing a percentage to be donated to Mexican independent midwives.

Rebozos (Mexican name) aka Mantas (Ecuadorian name) aka ‘baby wraps' are very versatile. They are used by Doulas & Birthworkers during Labour, in Spinning Babies, in Pregnancy & Postpartum Wrapping, in Hypnobirthing, Baby Wearing, Closing of the Bones / Cerrada, Rebozo Massage, during Menstruation, with Endometriosis, after Miscarriage & Hysterectomy, for Yoga, and of course just for wearing as a shawl, just as Mexican women have been wearing their signature garment for centuries. (Frida Kahlo amongst many others made the Rebozo renowned around the world).

As a Doula, Closing the Bones & Rebozo Massage practitioner & Trainer in Closing the Bones & Rebozo massage, I am able to work directly with various Artisanal Cooperatives all around Mexico from whom I source Rebozos for my trainees and clients in the UK and abroad.

Washing instructions:
• please first soak your rebozo (especially any bright coloured or open weave ones) overnight in water with a cup of salt or vinegar added to it, to help the colours to set
• wash before first use
• hand wash or use a hand wash/delicate cycle setting
• 30° / 40° max.
• use a mild detergent – I use a natural detergent, such as ivy leaves
• ideally dry in the shade to protect the colours
• don't bleach
• don't tumble dry
• protect the fringes by tying them together or tying a sock around them when washing
• or use a laundry bag for protection

Please note that colours may vary depending on what screen you view them on, and that rebozos are individual handwoven and hand-dyed pieces, with no 2 ever being the exact same. Handwoven rebozos might contain some weavers knots, pulls, … – these are not damages but signs that they are handwork. Slight changes in colour or size might also be due the change in the thread lots and as the rebozos are handmade by various artisans. Each rebozo, in the end, is a completely unique piece.
