This is a large, circa 1890 open work, Gothic style brooch with added contemporary silver skull. The large 2 x 1.5 inch brooch has great Victorian elements including scroll design border and pansy flowers frame. The skull measures .5 inch. The C- clasp pin closure on back measures 1.25 inches and typical of that era. The brooch is plated silver open work with two tiny cut purple glass on top and bottom with a .75 inch cut purple paste glass stone in the middle, to which the contemporary silver plated skull is added. The original silver plating has started to wear off the brooch giving it a naturally antiqued finish.
